CFUW Kelowna's own International Project
CFUW Kelowna began a project to donate money to Bakhita Primary School in Balaka, Malawi, Africa in 2006. A member of our club had been working in the country and told of the work of the school and we have been supporting them ever since. Because the funds are sent directly to the headmistress of the school, all funds are used for students or for equipment to help in the classroom. The full cost of one year per student is about C$85 and the money is spread to help as many as possible. This has exceeded 20 girls per year who would have had to drop out without our help. Some have also gone on to secondary school.
The program has raised over $26,000 since it started in 2006. This year's donations totalled $2,105 alone. This was the third time we have been able to send more than $2,000 in a given year. A worthwhile project.
See photo below of some of this year's students.
